First Steps Among the Zombies of Deathknell

A short day in Deathknell: a dozen of the Scourge's mindless dead put down, a sealed scroll from the rogue trainer, and a new strength settling in.

The Road

The whole day was spent in Deathknell, in the Tirisfal Glades, under a midday light that did little to warm the place. I never went beyond its bounds.

Battles

I counted twelve of the Scourge's dead by day's end: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies, and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. The zombies came shambling and went down in the same dull way. The lone skeleton was my first taste of what Sarvis has set before me next.

Deeds

Shadow Priest Sarvis greeted me with a grim comfort, saying no race has suffered as ours, and that laughing in the face of death has become second nature to us. I finished The Mindless Ones for him. He lamented that the Scourge cannot be brought into the fold, since their numbers would serve us, but said that since they will not join us, we have no choice but to destroy them.

He then gave me two more requests. The first is Rattling the Rattlecages, to kill twelve of the skeletons, which he calls a tougher foe than the zombies, and to return to him afterward. The second was a sealed scroll, Encrypted Scroll, that had arrived for me bearing the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias. I read it and carried it to him in the inn, and the task was done. Trias said he spends most of his time there watching for new faces and sizing up prospects. If I keep my nose clean, he will teach me a few things whenever I return.

Novice Elreth also asked something of me, in a task called The Damned. She tends the wounded and tailors armor and clothes, and she wants six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings, which she says I will find from the wolves and bats to the south. In return she will find armor for me. I have not yet begun on it.

Fellowship

No companions walked with me today. I spoke with Shadow Priest Sarvis, Novice Elreth, and David Trias, as written above. Trias spoke of the Deathstalkers, whose numbers grow with Lord Varimathras's sanction.

Growth

A new strength came over me early in the day, and I felt myself grow stronger. My skill at defense rose, and later my work with daggers sharpened too. Trias says I may return when I am ready for a skill or two more.
