First Steps Among the Deathknell Dead
A short day in Deathknell: a dozen mindless dead cut down, a sealed scroll from the rogue trainer, and new strength settling into my bones.
The Road
Deathknell, in the Tirisfal Glades, was all I saw today. The light of midday lay over the place, and I did not wander far from its paths.
Battles
Twelve of the shambling dead fell to my blade today: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. Early on, two Mindless Zombies and a Wretched Zombie went down, and a good deal more followed once I returned. Six more Wretched Zombies, two more Mindless Zombies and the lone skeleton finished the count. Nothing in the record says any of them gave me real trouble.
Deeds
Shadow Priest Sarvis greeted me with a grim jest: "To laugh in the face of death has become second nature for all of us." I finished The Mindless Ones for him. He said it was unfortunate that the Scourge could not be brought into the fold, but since they would not join us, there was no choice but to destroy them.
He then set me two more tasks. The first is Rattling the Rattlecages, which asks me to kill twelve Rattlecage Skeletons and return to him. He called them a tougher foe than the zombies and told me not to tarry. The second was an Encrypted Scroll that had arrived for me while I was away. It bore the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias, and Sarvis advised me to read it before heading out again.
Novice Elreth gave me a task of her own, The Damned. She tends the wounded and tailors armor, and she guessed I would soon be hunting the Mindless Ones. She asked for six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings, and in return she will find me armor. The wolves and bats, she said, are to the south.
I read the scroll and took it to David Trias, which finished that task. He told me he spends most of his time in the inn watching for new faces and keeping tabs on up-and-coming prospects. If I keep my nose clean, he will teach me a few things whenever I return.
Fellowship
David Trias spoke of the Deathstalkers, whose numbers grow with the sanction of Lord Varimathras. He called them more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it. I am glad to be counted among them.
Growth
New strength came to me early in the day, and I felt it settle into my limbs. My skill at defense rose to 5. Later, after much work with my blades, my skill with daggers rose to 10. David Trias says I should come back when I am ready for a new skill or two.
