First Steps Among the Deathknell Dead
A new Forsaken rogue cuts down a dozen of the Scourge's mindless, reads a sealed scroll, and finds a trainer waiting in the inn.
The Road
Midday light, such as it is, hung over Deathknell in Tirisfal Glades, and I spent the whole of this day within its bounds. I came to it twice, and each time the place was the same: cold air, the groan of the dead, and work waiting.
Battles
Twelve of the Scourge fell to my blades today: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies, and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. The zombies were slow and stupid, and I learned their rhythm quickly. The skeleton was the first of its kind I faced, and Sarvis says there will be more.
Deeds
Shadow Priest Sarvis was satisfied with my work on "The Mindless Ones." He said it was unfortunate that the Scourge could not be brought into the fold, since their numbers would be useful, but they will not join us, so we have no choice but to destroy them.
He gave me three more requests in the same hour. The first is "Rattling the Rattlecages": I am to kill twelve Rattlecage Skeletons and return to him. He wants to see me "under pressure," and warns that they are tougher than the zombies. The second was a scroll that arrived for me while I was away, bearing the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias. I read it and carried it to him, and that task is done. David Trias said he spends most of his time in the inn watching for new faces and up-and-coming prospects. He told me to keep my nose clean, and said to come back whenever I wished to learn a skill or two.
The third came from Novice Elreth, who tends the wounded and tailors armor. She asked for six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings, which she says lie to the south among the wolves and bats. In return she will find armor for me. I have not begun that task.
Fellowship
Sarvis greeted me as "rogue" and said no other race on Azeroth has suffered as our people have, and that laughing in the face of death has become second nature to us. David Trias spoke of Lord Varimathras's sanction and of the Deathstalkers growing in number, with more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it. I liked hearing that I might be one of those blades.
Growth
A new strength settled into me early in the day, a sure sign I had grown past my first footing among the Forsaken. My skill at defense rose a little as the zombies struck at me. Later, after more work with my daggers, my skill with them improved too, and the blades felt steadier in my hands.
