Waking Cold in Deathknell

A rogue of the Forsaken rises at dawn, learns she is free of the Lich King, and cuts down her first mindless dead.

The Road

I came to myself at Shadow Grave in the pale light of dawn, and I stood a while just taking in the view of Tirisfal Glades. Then I made my way to Deathknell, where the dawn was still thin over the crypt and the village.

Battles

The northern part of the village is overrun, and I went into it with my daggers. Six of the fallen did not get up again: four Mindless Zombies, one Wretched Zombie, and a Young Scavenger. The cold meant little to me. The work was clumsy at first, but it got easier.

Deeds

Undertaker Mordo gave me the first words I heard in this new life: "About time you woke up." He said they had been ready to toss me into the fire with the others, but I had made it. He is the caretaker of the crypt of Deathknell, and he told me I was the Lich King's slave no more. He sent me to Shadow Priest Sarvis in the chapel at the base of the hill, and I finished that task there.

Sarvis called me another of the walking dead and spoke of the confusion on my face. He explained that Lady Sylvanas had freed us from the Lich King and now guides us in the war against the Scourge and the holdouts of humanity. Then he gave me a new charge, The Mindless Ones. He wants eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies destroyed, with no mercy for what were once our brothers and sisters. I have not finished it. Five of the sixteen are down.

Fellowship

The chapel had others in it. David Trias spoke of the Deathstalkers, whose numbers grow with Lord Varimathras's sanction, more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it. Margaret Weaver spoke to me in a tongue I could not follow at all. I answered no one, and nobody travelled with me today.

Growth

My skill with daggers rose to 5. It is a small thing, but my grip and my timing both felt surer afterward.
