Waking Among the Dead at Deathknell
A mage wakes in a crypt, learns she is Forsaken, and cuts down eleven of the Lich King's mindless remnants before learning a new spell.
The Road
I woke into the cold gloom of Shadow Grave and came up into Deathknell, in the Tirisfal Glades. The village lay under a midday light that felt thin and pale to me. I stopped a moment to take in the sight of it, the first place I could call known in this strange new life.
Battles
The northern edge of the village was crawling with the Mindless Ones, and I went at them with what I had. By day's end I had put down eleven foes: seven Mindless Zombies, three Wretched Zombies, and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. Somewhere in the work I felt a new strength settle into me.
Deeds
Undertaker Mordo, caretaker of the crypt, was the first to speak to me. "About time you woke up," he said, and he told me I was the Lich King's slave no more. He sent me to Shadow Priest Sarvis in the chapel at the base of the hill, and that finished the task called Rude Awakening.
Sarvis explained our situation: the Forsaken have been freed from the Lich King by Lady Sylvanas, the Dark Lady, and now fight the Scourge and the living humans who hound us. Then he gave me a new charge, to destroy the Mindless Ones overrunning the north of the village, eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies. He wanted no mercy shown them. I have not yet finished it.
Growth
A new strength came over me in the midst of the fighting, and I felt my power deepen. Afterward Isabella, a mage trainer of our people, greeted me, and under her teaching I learned Arcane Intellect. My handling of defense and of the staff also improved a little through the day's blows.
