Waking Among the Forsaken at Deathknell
A paladin rises into a dawn he never expected, learns he is the Lich King's slave no more, and is sent against the mindless dead.
The Road
Dawn was breaking over Tirisfal Glades when I first took stock of my surroundings, and the place called Shadow Grave lay open before me. I stood a moment and simply looked. Then I made my way on to Deathknell, where the same pale dawn light lay over the village, and I paused again to take in the view. Cold air, grey light, and the strange quiet of a place that has known too much death.
Deeds
Undertaker Mordo gave me my first task at Deathknell, and his greeting was blunt: "About time you woke up." He said they had been ready to toss me into the fire with the others, but it seemed I had made it. He named himself caretaker of the crypt, told me I was the Lich King's slave no more, and bade me speak with Shadow Priest Sarvis in the chapel at the base of the hill.
I did as he asked. Sarvis greeted me as a paladin and said no other people on Azeroth had suffered as ours had, and that laughing in the face of death had become second nature to us. He called me another of the walking dead, and said it must have been a shock to wake in the crypt with only the cold and Mordo for company. He must have seen the confusion on my face, for he explained our situation. Lady Sylvanas, the Dark Lady, has freed us from the Lich King's control and guides us in our war against the Scourge and the holdouts of humanity who dog our every step. With that, Rude Awakening was done.
He had another request ready. The northern part of the village is overrun with the Mindless Ones, our former brothers and sisters, and they must be destroyed without mercy. Sarvis wants eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies dead. "The Fallen," he said, are nothing but the Lich King's slaves.
Growth
Outside the chapel, a man named Aramis Hammerhand welcomed me back to the light and asked whether I required training. I have not yet answered him, but I mean to.
