Waking in the Crypt at Deathknell

A paladin wakes among the Forsaken, freed from the Lich King's hold, and is sent down the hill with a grim errand against the Mindless Ones.

The Road

The day began at Shadow Grave, in the Tirisfal Glades, with the light of dawn thin and grey over the ground. I stopped a moment to take in the place. A few minutes later I came to Deathknell, and paused there too, looking over the little village on its hill while the morning cold pressed close.

Deeds

Undertaker Mordo gave me my first task at Deathknell. "About time you woke up," he said. He told me they had been ready to toss me into the fire with the others, but I had made it. He is the caretaker of the crypt, and he told me I am the Lich King's slave no more. He bade me speak with Shadow Priest Sarvis in the chapel at the base of the hill.

Sarvis received me, and that finished the task. He named me one of the walking dead and guessed what a shock it must have been to wake in the crypt with only the cold and Mordo for company. He explained that we Forsaken were freed from the Lich King by our new leader, Lady Sylvanas. She guides us in the war against the Scourge and against the holdouts of humanity who dog our every step.

He had another task ready for me. The northern part of the village is overrun with the Mindless Ones, and he wants them destroyed without mercy. I am to kill eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies. He called them our former brothers and sisters, but said the Fallen are nothing but the Lich King's slaves now.

Fellowship

Sarvis greeted me as "paladin" and said no other people on Azeroth have suffered as much as ours. To laugh in the face of death, he said, has become second nature for all of us. Before I left the chapel, Aramis Hammerhand welcomed me back to the light and asked if I needed training.
