First Steps Among the Forsaken at Deathknell
A new rogue cuts down a dozen shambling dead in Deathknell and finds Shadow Priest Sarvis has more work, and a sealed scroll, waiting.
The Road
The day began in Deathknell, in the Tirisfal Glades, under a midday sun that did little to warm the place. I came back to the same bleak ground later, and spent the rest of my time near the same crooked buildings and the paths between them.
Battles
The dead came shambling and I met them with my blades. By day's end twelve had fallen: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. The zombies were slow and stupid, and the skeleton was the first of its kind I had faced. Sarvis says they are a tougher foe, so I will have to be careful with the rest.
Deeds
Shadow Priest Sarvis was satisfied with my work on The Mindless Ones. He said it was a pity the Scourge could not be brought into the fold, since their numbers would be useful, but that they will not join us and so must be destroyed.
He gave me a new task at once, Rattling the Rattlecages. I am to kill twelve Rattlecage Skeletons and return to him. He said I had shown my potential under normal circumstances and now he wanted to see me under pressure. I have killed only one so far.
He also handed me the Encrypted Scroll, which had arrived while I was away. It bore the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias. I read it and went to find him in Deathknell. David said he spends most of his time in the inn watching for new faces and up-and-coming prospects. He told me to keep my nose clean and come back whenever I want to learn a skill or two.
Novice Elreth gave me a third request, The Damned. She tends the wounded, tailors armor and helps Sarvis however she can. She guessed I would be put to hunting the Mindless Ones. If I bring her six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings, she will find armor for me. She says wolves and bats are plentiful to the south.
Fellowship
Shadow Priest Sarvis greeted me as a rogue and said no other people on Azeroth have suffered as much as ours, and that laughing in the face of death has become second nature to us. David Trias greeted me with talk of Lord Varimathras's sanction and the growing numbers of the Deathstalkers, more blades to strike our enemies when they least expect it. Novice Elreth was brisk and practical. I did not travel with anyone.
Growth
I felt new strength settle into me early in the day, and I stopped for a moment to take it in. My skill at defense improved a little, and later my skill with daggers did too.
