First Steps Among the Deathknell Dead
A new Forsaken rogue cuts down a dozen of the mindless dead, earns Sarvis's trust, and is called by a sealed scroll to David Trias.
The Road
Midday light lay thin over Deathknell in Tirisfal Glades, and that was the whole of my wandering today. I came to it, left it for a time, and came back. There was no need to go farther; the work lay all around me.
Battles
The dead did not rest easy today, and I saw to it that they rested harder. In all I put down twelve of them: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies, and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. The first fell clumsily, but by the end my blade moved with less hesitation. The one skeleton was only a taste of what Sarvis now wants more of.
Deeds
Shadow Priest Sarvis greeted me as "rogue" and said no other race has suffered as much as ours, and that laughing in the face of death has become second nature to us. When I finished The Mindless Ones, he said it was unfortunate the Scourge cannot be brought into the fold, since their numbers would be useful, but they will not join us, so we must destroy them.
He had more for me at once. In Rattling the Rattlecages he wants twelve of the skeletons thinned out, tougher foes than the zombies, to see how I fare under pressure. I have only begun that count. He also gave me an encrypted scroll that had arrived while I was among the zombies, bearing the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias. I read it and went to find him, and that task was done. Trias said he spends most of his time in the inn watching for new faces and up-and-coming prospects. If I keep my nose clean, he will teach me a few things, and I may return whenever I wish to see if I am ready for a new skill or two.
Novice Elreth gave me a third request, The Damned. She tends the wounded, tailors armor and clothes, and helps Sarvis however he needs. She is running short of paws and wings, and if I bring her six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings, she will find me some armor. Wolves and bats, she said, are to be found to the south.
Fellowship
I spoke with three of my own in Deathknell. Sarvis and Novice Elreth both set me to work, and David Trias welcomed me into the quiet company of the Deathstalkers, whose numbers, he said, grow with Lord Varimathras's sanction. He spoke of more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it.
Growth
A new strength settled into my limbs early in the day, and I stood a moment to take it in. Hard fighting sharpened my defense, and later my work with the dagger grew keener too. Trias has promised more to teach me when I am ready.
