First Steps Among the Deathknell Dead

A new Forsaken rogue cuts down a dozen mindless Scourge, reads a sealed scroll, and is taken in by the Deathstalkers.

The Road

Deathknell was all I saw today, and it was enough. Midday light fell thin and gray over Tirisfal Glades, and I spent my hours moving between the priest's post and the inn where the Deathstalkers keep watch.

Battles

Twelve of the Scourge fell to my blades: seven Wretched Zombies, four Mindless Zombies and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. The zombies came shambling and I met them one after another, and by the end my hands knew the rhythm of it. The skeleton was the first of its kind I have faced. Shadow Priest Sarvis says they are a tougher foe than the zombies, and I mean to find out for myself.

Deeds

Shadow Priest Sarvis greeted me as rogue and spoke of how no other people have suffered as our own. When I finished The Mindless Ones, he admitted it was unfortunate that the Scourge could not be brought into the fold, since their numbers would be useful, but said there was no choice but to destroy them.

He had more for me at once. He asked me to prove myself under pressure by killing twelve Rattlecage Skeletons, then return to him. He also handed me an encrypted scroll that had arrived while I was away, bearing the seal of the rogue trainer David Trias. I took it to Trias at the inn and the matter was settled. He said he spends most of his time there watching for new faces and sizing up prospects. If I keep my nose clean, he will teach me a few things whenever I return.

Novice Elreth asked for my help too. She tends the wounded, tailors armor and clothes, and helps Sarvis with whatever he needs. She is running short of paws and wings and wants six Scavenger Paws and six Duskbat Wings. In return she will find armor for me. The wolves and bats, she said, are to the south.

Fellowship

David Trias spoke of the Deathstalkers growing with the sanction of Lord Varimathras, more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it. I am now one of those blades, it seems.

Growth

A new strength settled into me early in the day, and I felt myself stand a little taller among the dead. My defense improved a little, and later my skill with daggers grew steadier too.
