Waking Cold in Deathknell
I woke among the Forsaken, free of the Lich King's chains, and had my first taste of the Mindless Ones before the hour was out.
The Road
The first thing I knew was Shadow Grave, and the dawn light lying pale over Tirisfal Glades. I stopped a while to take in the view. There was little else I could do but look; everything was new, and I was cold, and I did not yet know why.
From there I made my way to Deathknell, where the dawn was still thin over the hill and the chapel waited at its base.
Battles
The northern part of the village is overrun with the Mindless Ones, and I went against them with my daggers. By the end I had put down four Mindless Zombies and one Wretched Zombie. A Young Scavenger also fell to my blades. Six foes in all, and I walked away from every one.
The work is not finished. Eight of each kind of zombie were asked of me, and I am not yet halfway there.
Deeds
Undertaker Mordo was the first to speak to me, and he was not gentle about it. "About time you woke up," he said. They had been ready to toss me into the fire with the others, but I had made it. He is the caretaker of the crypt of Deathknell, and he told me I am the Lich King's slave no more. He sent me to speak with Shadow Priest Sarvis in the chapel at the base of the hill. That task, Rude Awakening, is done.
Sarvis called me another of the walking dead and said waking in the crypt must have been quite a shock. He explained our situation. Lady Sylvanas, the Dark Lady, has freed us from the Lich King's control and leads us in war against the Scourge and the holdouts of humanity. Then he set me a new task, The Mindless Ones. I am to destroy eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies, and show them no mercy, though they were once our brothers and sisters. In Sarvis's words, the Fallen are nothing but the Lich King's slaves. I have taken the task up and it is still unfinished.
Fellowship
Sarvis greeted me as "rogue", and said that to laugh in the face of death has become second nature to all of us. Near him I met David Trias, who spoke of the Deathstalkers, whose numbers grow with Lord Varimathras's sanction: more blades to strike at our enemies when they least expect it. I noted that. I am a rogue too, and it is good to know there are others who fight from the shadows.
Margaret Weaver also spoke to me, but in a tongue I could not follow. It sounded like the old language of the dark, and I understood none of it.
Growth
My skill with daggers rose, and it is now a little sharper than it was. It is a small thing, but I felt it in my grip.
