Waking in the Crypt at Deathknell

A newly risen Forsaken mage wakes in Deathknell, learns she is free of the Lich King, and cuts down the mindless dead of the village.

The Road

I came to myself at Shadow Grave, in the Tirisfal Glades, and found my way up into Deathknell. The place was a cold, gray huddle of ruin beneath a midday sky that gave no warmth. I stopped a moment to take it in, this village of the dead that now seemed to be mine to walk through.

Battles

Once Sarvis had set me to it, I went north through the village and hunted the Mindless Ones. By the end of the day I had put down eleven of them: seven Mindless Zombies, three Wretched Zombies, and a single Rattlecage Skeleton. They were slow, hollow things, and there was no mercy in the work, as Sarvis had asked. Somewhere in the middle of it I felt myself grow stronger.

Deeds

The first voice I heard in this new life was Undertaker Mordo's. He said it was "about time" I woke, and that they had been ready to toss me into the fire with the others. He named himself caretaker of the crypt, told me I was the Lich King's slave no more, and sent me down to the chapel to speak with Shadow Priest Sarvis.

Sarvis explained our situation. We have been freed from the Lich King by Lady Sylvanas, the Dark Lady, and we now fight the Scourge and the humans who dog our steps. That finished my first task, and he gave me another at once. The northern part of the village is overrun with the Mindless Ones, and he wants eight Mindless Zombies and eight Wretched Zombies destroyed. I have not yet finished it. Seven of the first kind and three of the second lie behind me.

Fellowship

Sarvis greeted me as a mage and said that no other people on Azeroth have suffered as we have, and that laughing in the face of death has become second nature to us. Later Isabella, a mage trainer of the dead like myself, greeted me and named me for what I am. I traveled with no companion today.

Growth

A new strength settled into me as I cut down the dead, and I felt myself rise a step in power. Isabella then taught me Arcane Intellect, my first lesson in the craft. In the fighting I also grew a little more practiced at turning blows aside and at handling a staff.
